I'm pretty much calling it quits for this blog, I don't use it any more and I can't really be arsed to keep two separate blogs running, especially since they're exactly the same thing! Go to my other blog "Illustration by Dan Widdowson" to keep up to date on my latest projects :) take care.

I've been working on this for most of the day so I'll call it quits for today and hopefully get it coloured and finished by the end of tomorrow.

a change of direction

I've given up on my original story book idea since it was depressing me and I've gone back to my original idea of a nice simple comical book listing small things that piss me off - simplicity is the key!

Final unit for the first year

Ok so I've spent a few days researching, writing, sketching, thinking and finally I've started piecing together my final project. These are the first few tests for my little book sort of thing.

Ok so I've got me an idea for the final project now... well... ANOTHER idea. But I think this one would be more fun so anyway, the cunting picture of me is to do with that, the sheeple one is to do with a term I read on a post in the facebook group "conspiracy theorists say the darndest things". I was so impressed that I had to imagine what sheeple might look like. As the title suggests, I've gone very cartoony at the minute but I think it will work for the project that I have in mind. If not then I'm going to chop off my hands since I'm not creative enough. CHOP CHOP.

These cyborgs were fun to make, and though they weren't actually selected by the tutors (possibly due to the fact that I left early) I still managed to sneak them on to the computer with my USB stick.... mwuahahahaaaaaaarrr!

Visions of the future part one

It's been a long time since I posted anything to my blog since I mostly just upload any work that I do to facebook and sit there patiently waiting for much needed recognition, like the pathetic worm that I am. However, the following week has been all about "visions of the future" at uni, so I felt that I should upload everything I've done for that project to the same place. I'll try to keep on top of this more, since a lot of work has gone un-posted so fingers crossed for the future (not that I would cross my fingers in hope of anything, that's just madness!).

There's a competition that I'm keen to enter... here's what I've got so far. I didn't really want to scan in the other 7 pages of chimp studies that I did! My illustration unit can wait ;)

more sketching

Eugh, today we had to do laundry and it was fucking boring but I still tried to do some drawing there (see below) aside from that I did a weird collage thing that looks rough as hell and then coloured in one of my other sketches in photoshop. I wouldn't normally colour in a scanned image without redoing the line art but hey, experimenting is the point eh.

These are the first few pages of my a6 sketchbook that I'm using for the drawing approaches unit of my course. These were all drawn on location except the squirrel on the left because they just will not keep still as you can see from my poor attempts to capture them on the lower page. I snagged a photo and sketched it out quickly when I got in from the cold. Some of these pictures were done using blind drawing and then I scribbled some shading on afterwards. as well as watering the ink down in places. I'll probably use my a6 sketchbook for initial sketches and take those images into experiments in a larger sketchbook... maybe?
